AED Information

Do I need an AED machine?

According to the UK Resuscitation Council, a leading professional body and charity focussing on resuscitation education and research

“All businesses and organisations will undertake a first aid needs assessment to determine the level of first aid provision within their workplace as a part of their responsibilities to protect the safety of their workforce and visitors. As an organisation or company it is a legal requirement to take precautions to reduce foreseeable risks, to document this and be able to present it to the HSE if requested. As part of this assessment it is quite appropriate to consider the risk of a cardiac arrest occurring in the workplace and investing in automated external defibrillators (AED).”

Do I need to be trained to use it?

Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are designed to be used by members of the public, and are very effective at guiding the operator through the process of administering the shock. They have become widely available, are safe and easy to use, and will not allow a shock to be given to a victim who does not require one.

We can provide your colleagues with awareness training, onsite at your premises, to ensure they are aware of the machine and confident to use it.

All Ofqual regulated Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work courses include defibrillator training as part of their syllabus.

IP Rating – most defibrillators that we supply are rated at IP56 protecting them from dust, high pressure water jets, making them suitable for outdoor use.

Which AED is right for my business?

These are the three most popular types of defibrillator available.

Semi Automatic – Semi-automatic shock delivery, user administers shock by pressing a button when prompted by the the AED, user prompted to perform CPR when advised by the AED.

Fully Automated – Fully automatic shock delivery, AED automatically delivers shock if required, user prompted to perform CPR when advised by the AED.

With CPR Advisor – CPR Rate Advisor, ICG-based real-time audible and visual feedback on CPR      rate “Push faster”, “Push slower”. Semi-automatic shock delivery, initiated by the user.

It is important to note that cardiac defibrillators will not administer a shock unless a lifesaving shock is required.

What is the cost of ownership?

When assessing the cost of an AED program, take into account not only the up-front cost of the devices, but also the ongoing costs associated with maintaining them over time.

To keep the total cost of ownership low and reduce maintenance hassles, choose a device with a synchronised replacement cycle for pads and batteries.

Also, you may be able to increase your buying power by implementing your AED program across multiple sites. This could include other floors of your building, other sites within your own company or other companies in your business park.
